Community Food Atlas / Community Food Atlas
Community Food Atlas The Community Food Atlas was conceptualized to create food security data that would be accessible at the community level. The Food Atlas is intended to visualize information about local food resources and to provide information for the purposes of analyzing local food service delivery and local and regional food systems planning.
The Community Food Atlas Project began in June of 2005. The initial project included a partnership between the Vancouver Island Health Authority, the Community Social Planning Council of Greater Victoria, and the Capital Region Food & Agriculture Initiatives Roundtable (CR-FAIR). The project was expanded in 2006 to extend data collection from southern Vancouver Island to the Central and Northern Island Regions.
Currently the Community Food Atlas is being developed in collaboration with interested community groups, the Public Health Association of BC, University of Victoria Geography Department and the Vancouver Island Health Authority and is very much a work in progress.
