British Columbia is home to a vibrant food security community, dedicated to supporting access to safe, nutritionally adequate and culturally appropriate food for everyone in BC.
BC’s population distribution, diverse cultures, and distinct geography mean that food security work is taking place in urban centres, rural towns and in remote communities benefitting from BC’s abundance of forests, farms, lakes, rivers and coastal areas.
Individuals, community groups, non-profits, farmers, hunters, fishers, business, health authorities, municipal and provincial governments and Indigenous communities are all working to address food security. This work ranges from individual and community actions to policy, advocacy, collaborations and research dedicated to building a sustainable food system for all.
